It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Things don't always go according to plan, as we found out
yesterday, but after moments of staring disaster in the face,
we were saved by better than ever
Band Spirit!

The feelings of gloom and doom disappeared during the group
photo shoot on the front steps of the old brick schoolhouse,
after which it was business as usual, and our parade and
concert audiences said we were up to our usual standard,
whatever they meant by that.

They enjoyed us and we had fun, as shown in the photos posted by cornetist Bill By
ars
         on the band's Facebook page.

There were some disappointments, such as not playing Main Street America--our medley
of service songs--and the unanticipated conspiracy that robbed us of our annual moment
of glory: leading the community singing of The Star-Spangled Banner.  But we can be
proud of a highly successful event with
all of us doing our best.  Special thanks go to
Chaz, who rehearsed us, and Susan, who pitched in to provide the audience interaction
essential to our popularity at the concert, and to Chris and the other percussionists, who
turned us into a precision marching machine.  And equally to all of you from near and far
and past and present and loud and soft, who contributed your time and energy and sweat.

It is due to every one of you that I am looking forward to next year more than ever!  As
Chaz mentioned at rehearsal, the band's roots go back more than 20 years, and if you can
spare that high level of enthusiasm for 4 hours per year, we can keep the tradition alive.

Meanwhile, look for some photos of this year's event (soon) here on the band's website,
and others on the "
The Greater Geneva Grande Award Marching Band Boosters"
Facebook page.  (You can click the Facebook link below.)  And if you join the Boosters,
you'll get notices of any future postings on that site.

Thanks again, and hope to see you next year!
