IT WILL ALL BE OVER IN LESS THAN A WEEK!!
The 8th and final(?) season of The Greater Geneva Grande, etc.
A couple of announcements from this morning's parade meeting:
1. POSITION IN THE PARADE. We're ahead of the horses again!
That's good news for us, for obvious reasons, and for the horses, who
might not be music-lovers. We're also just ahead of the Sons of the
Confederacy, because they promised not to run over us with their
float, as long as we don't play Marching Through Georgia. (I didn't promise
not to play Battle Hymn of the Republic, with Yankee Doodle intro, which is part of our regular
parade repertoire, but we might want to save it for the concert at the picnic, while they're eating
their southern-fried pizza.)
2. BAND PHOTO SCHEDULE CHANGE. The band photo has been moved to before the
parade and on the old brick schoolhouse steps, instead of after the parade and under the tree as
usual. The Rural Heritage Center is allowing us to use their auditorium for rehearsal and would
like a photo to match the one below, to illustrate how Geneva's rural heritage continues to flourish
from one millennium to the next.
The tuba on the left is displayed in the amazing little Geneva Museum,
next door to the Community Center. Worth a visit after our concert.
There was much appreciation expressed for our band at this morning's meeting, particularly for
the way we interact with the audience, so keep that in mind as you're playing. And I thought that
the plans for the festival sounded like fun. After our concert, you might like to see the children's
games or pony rides, or toss cow chips into a toilet, or kiss a pig. (Try it, you might like it.)
Just now, four of our best players cancelled due to work-schedule conflicts (there's a lot of it
going around). It's devastating news, but just means the rest of us will have to play 10% louder,
or keep the recruiting effort going right up until the day of the event, which again is July 3rd, not
the 4th.
There's not much more to tell. See the for directions, and the previous newsletter for the
schedule. When you arrive for the rehearsal, please check in with me to get your music (if you
don't already have it) and your food and drink coupons. Please try to be ready to play at 9 AM.
And if you have your bottle lanyard from last year, bring it along. There will be no water wagon
this year (Gunga Dad will be cooling his heels in Connecticut), but two bottles of chilled water
will be available for each of us in the rehearsal hall. There are a few more lanyards if you need
one, or you might want to bring your own water bottle with a belt clip. Water is very important!
Hope to see all of you on Saturday, along with anyone else you can persuade by promising fame
and glory if they join us, or by convincing them that sweating is fun.
